Cab Sauv Lot #37.

Mountain Grown Cabernet

Cabernet Sauvignon #30Cabernet Sauvignon Lot # 37 – 2011

San Juan de Pirque –  Maipo Valley

Winemaking details

This wine was mountain grown near San Juan de Pirque in the Maipo valley and farmed with traditional methods. It was allowed to ferment naturally in open-top fermenters, outside of a little help through cold harvest nights with hot water bottles. Caps were punched down by hand and pressing was strictly manual. The wine was barrelled in neutral oak (three or more uses) over two winters.

Comments & Critics

Wine Advocate – Robert Parker 90 pts
Lot #37 Cabernet Sauvignon from Alto Maipo is a fruity and fragrant version of Cabernet Sauvignon, with aromas of red fruit, blood and a special citric freshness. The palate is medium-bodied, with ultra-fine tannins, sweet fruit and fresh flavors followed by bitter orange notes that are quite unusual but pleasant. It develops a note of ripe peaches with time in the glass. Amazing. Drink now-2017. – Luis Gutierrez  WA # 213 – June 2014

“One of the most impressive new names in Chile.”- Luis Gutierrez

“I should make sure to sit down and taste and discuss the whole line-up with Mossman next time ‘round, as I found the wines intellectually enriching and want to understand them better.” – Luis Gutierrez

Stephen Tanzer – International Wine Cellar
Vivid ruby. Sexy, highly perfumed bouquet of fresh red berries, cherry pit, potpourri and mocha, with hints of black pepper and anise adding complexity. Spicy and expansive in the mouth, offering lively cherry and raspberry flavors and intense floral character. Silky tannins add grip and shape to the long, sappy finish. This wine received no new oak. 91 pts Josh Raynolds – Steve Tanzer’s Int. Wine Cellar

Wine Advocate – Robert Parker The Cabernet Sauvignon contains a small % of Cabernet Franc in its makeup and received the same elevage as the Cabernet Franc cuvee. Fragrant, racy, and expressive, it offers up scents of black cherry, black raspberry, floral notes, and Asian spices. Made in a finesse style, on the palate it has plenty of concentration, potential complexity, and a lengthy finish. Give it 2-3 years to fully unwind and drink it from 2014 to 2021. 90 pts
